Audi R8 Sighting

OK OK, ever since the motorshow in 2006 and then 2007 and then IRON MAN(!), I’ve been saving up extremely interested for an Audi R8. And I’ve seen it once in Bondi Junction and another time in the city… Yeeeoooowww! But today oh today did I have a treat!

It wasn’t as impressive as I thought it would be. Mainly because the driver was driving with his windows up I guess. I mean if you were driving a car like that, you would want the whole world to know, wouldn’t you? Sigh, I jumped and down the first time I saw it drive past but this time, the excitement kinda died down… Dear driver of Audi R8, next time when you go out on the streets please press your accelerator as hard as you can when I’m in your near vicinity…

And then a few moments later I saw this car…

Obviously I didn’t take the picture but the dude had his windows down. I had an inkling he pretty much knew what he was driving. A quick search on Drive.com.au estimated the price at a mere AUD 0.9mil (900k)… Which brings me to my next point…

I have no respect for people who drive the following car thinking its the car above…

RRP AUD 0.06 mil… or 60k.

God bless!

Drunken Chicken: A Guide

So as the weather gets colder, my finger, tongue and entire being itches for good hot stuff. Of course, there is none that can deny the goodness of a home-made Drunken Chicken soup/dish… Not to mention you can adjust the amount of wine yourself…

So you need mu yi (Wood Ear fungus), a good bottle of rice wine, ginger and steady hands… Also good to bring someone who knows Chinese when shopping for Chinese-labelled ingredients as the following excerpt will tell you…

Me: Eh, which one ar? I think its this one la… *picks up bottle and turns it to the back to read the Indonesian label*
SteveC: Yeah, its this one…
Me: Wa! You so good ah? How you know? See the colour of the wine then say yes ar?
SteveC: The label says “lau wang ziu”.
Me: O.

Always keep those fingertips curled up. Stuff I remember from “Yan Can Cook”.

Afterburners check. Seatbelts uncheck. And we have liftoff…

And then you stew those little drummettes in the wine/water concoction! We only did like 20 minutes of stewing which was not really enough. RST (recommended stewing time): 1-2 hours!

Dinner is served…

God bless!

Terrific Thursday?

So, I’ve been scouting for this thing for sometime now and I finally gave in yesterday…

Was looking on eBay (good ol’ eBay) for it and then found this online shop. Called them up, they said they do pick-up and three hours later, I found this sitting on my desk.

It. Is. So. Freaking. Good. (and big! hehe A little 50c coin is at the base for your reference :D )

I regretted I putted it off till so late to acquire. My old monitor was just starting to get blurry after a few hours and Photoshop turned into a muddle of colours after a few hours. Ha… OK, I exagerrate. But for someone as visual as me (well, I can be but I don’t think I’m as visual as some people), the LCD is awesome!

And since it is getting colder as well, I invested in a merino sweater too! $40 off RRP!

I’m gonna tie a little ribbon knot round my neck with those strings… Or just CUT them off… wuahaha!

God bless!

I Heart Mahathir.

He wasn’t PM for umpteenth years for nothing… He had vision, he had resolution.

Now that he’s old and out of power, it seems like some he fought so hard for to improve has remained the same. I think its akin to bald men fighting for a comb, someone wise once said. But for the majority of us he is both respected, appreciated and I daresay, loved.

Read his response to the whole media circus surrounding his exit from UMNO.

God bless Mahathir.

21: A Review

OK, so this week, yours truly visited the silver screens for yet another entertaining time of fun and laughter. I already watched the documentary (Breaking Vegas) about these bunch of MIT students who card-counted to rip off the Vegas casinos and how they would go about it so the movie, 21, for me, was purely for entertainment purposes. However, the movie was based on the semi-factual book (Bringing Down The House) by Ben Mezrich.

The theater was filled with uni students of all shapes, sizes and colours. All seeing themselves as represented in the movie. It is apt though, the majority of the movie didn’t have characters over the age of… 21. Anyway, I was expecting a Ocean’s 13 kind of movie you know, sleek soundtrack, flashy Vegas over-representations, satin cushions, velvet curtains kinda thing but the first few minutes of the show just had really, really bad music and an even crappier wardrobe.

But things started to change after the first half an hour or so… Although the OST was a super letdown… I don’t know if they deliberately did that to reflect the period or what. So if someone has anything new to add to this OST ‘comment’, please do.

All in all, it was an OK movie. I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. Character development by Jim Sturgess was awesome, Kevin Spacey delivered a sharp performance and the general background noise was just convincing enough. A scene which caught my eye, heart and soul was the opening scene… I think they spent big bucks on those few seconds of bike-riding on the bridge… Look out for it and you will (probably) know what I mean…

But if you really want an insight into how these nerds can actually bring themselves to pretend to be cool in these high-roller, pressure-cooker scenarios, watch the documentary.

God bless!

Iron Man: A Review

So finally got to watch Iron Man last Tuesday. I had pretty high expectations for the movie, just cause practically everyone who has had the opportunity to let it grace their eyes have had stark raving mad reviews about it. You know its that good when a member of the opposite gender says you should go watch an action movie.

Marvel movies are almost always good… We had SuperMan, Spiderman, Incredible Hulk, Batman… I think there’s just something about transforming a comic on to the screen that makes movie-goers go all ooh-ahh. Not to mention that Generation Y-ers grew up with these superheroes ingrained in their brains. And in essence, the target audience most likely to download go to the movies.

Anyway, the movie lived up to my expectations but it could do with a bit more. The plot was pretty thin and the props rather shallow as well. The important bits, the suit, the cars, the characters, the military base were all OK but they just lacked a certain depth to it… Like they could have added something in the bokeh to you know liven up the experience for a 2nd time viewer or just things for border ADHDs like me to pick up on… But instead it just forces you to concentrate on what’s in focus.

Gwyneth Paltrow is good as usual. She kinda reminded me of Pam in “The Office”. But she doesn’t need to do much in movies; just be there really. Robert Downey Jr. was good as well; his personal struggles may have helped him to portray that conflicting dilemma Iron Man had; or rather didn’t have.

Ah well… All in all, a good watch nonetheless. Watch it for the action, for the graphics, for the borderline reality of the future and most of all… Watch it for the Audi R8…

God bless!

Snippets from the past few days…

So our super-fast home ADSL2+ broadband connection to the cyberworld is all but… shaped. Do you know what shaped means? It means you are relegated to having dial-up speeds whilst paying for broadband prices. While not being a new concept to me, I struggle to understand why this happens here. So are many things… Like we only have two big supermarkets here. They can price gauge all they want, collude all they want and all the government will do is to launch ‘inquiries’ to appease the public ‘outcry’.

Politicians in suits and bright floral ties trying to carve their names into history. I feel very frustrated sometimes. If only they/we/it had more people… If only illegal immigrants would be allowed in; they do not need proper housing, don’t need proper healthcare, don’t need proper wages… Gah… That’s too inhumane but.

So what do we do? Procreate I say! With procreation comes a bigger population and with that more things to do and buy and more things to see online and with that MORE money for broadband providers. More broadband providers means they actually have some bloody competition and cheaper prices and for all of humanity’s sake… NO MORE SHAPING!!!

Things that appease my frustration during this time of slow-motion clicking…
1. Improving my Photoshop Skillz
2. Reading things like this merger. (Homage to Westpac and St. George; they are merging!!! Instead of more competitors, they go on and merge! Wat la! Dumb right? Argggh!)
3. Having the “Music and Lyricssong stuck in my head. And then reading about this lame NKOTB comeback
4. Reading about my childhood idol’s daily struggles after retirement… I heart Mahathir!

God bless!

Mid-Week Break

In my effort to keep myself disciplined in writing and continuously thinking of fresh ideas and new words to use, I present to you yet another blog entry. Nothing much has been happening though; spent the day waking up to a late breakfast and taking a walk around Newtown. Nothing much has changed too in this little suburb. Besides Maple moving to a place with a higher ceiling, finally accurately reflecting its prices.

I saw another senior citizen today trudging through the streets of Newtown. I just wanted to give her a great big hug, ask her to tell me about her life story and call her every weekend. But alas… she is but a stranger… Ah well…

Found out too that pretty much everything you want to learn about Photoshop is online already. At least basic commands… This is what I came up with today with JC’s lunch…

Do you see it accompanying a cooking recipe in a glossy magazine? Heh…
Anyway… Hopes of more to come…

Onward!
