2 or 3 days after the “Don’t Taze me, Bro!” incident at the University of Florida, this merchandise selling thing comes up! I think its uber cool! Haha! Watch the incident here.

If you’re up for getting more t-shirts, try this too. If it wasn’t 27 dollars, I would have gotten it! šŸ˜›

Anyway, the “Don’t Taze me, Bro!” incident has attracted lots of media attention and protests regarding free speech and all. I was thinking about it and the amount of modern satire, comedy and desktop publishing which has taken ‘free speech’ to a different level. The ‘free speech’ conjured by the forefathers of the Western society was made in a time when humour and stupidity was probably not as celebrated as it is nowadays. And I don’t think people who wanted free speech then had the time nor the reason to bring about free speech in a condescending and humiliating and rebellious order.

The people who wanted to would have lacked the know-how, the creativity and the education to do it. Which brings us to the modern dilemma. Apparently, the “Don’t Taze me, Bro!” guy planned it all along but the heavy-handed action by the police then and during APEC over here in Sydney makes me feel like I’m watching something from back home.

I guess free speech is only free speech when it brings about positive progress in society and something which benefits society. But sometimes even that is not enough for governments and certain individuals to tirade against free speech. But there are laws, slander, libel and defamation laws to take care of these things and the good news is authorities which tazed the bro and heavy-handedly handled the protestors at APEC are under investigations and we all know… deep in our hearts, what that actually means at the end of the day… nothing.

Ahhh… now that’s out…
God bless!
